Pod imenom Prewn Izzy Hagerup ustvarja nekakšen garažni freak folk, zgrajen na ostrih kontrastih. Tihe, skoraj zadržane kitarske melodije nenadoma prerežejo nalivi raztrgane distorzije, vokal pa se giblje med pritajenim šepetom in napeto, skoraj tresočo izpovednostjo. Svoje skladbe gradi kot drobne psihološke študije, ki so fragmentirane, tesnobne in polne notranje napetosti, ki pride do izraza v grozeče tihih pavzah. Na letošnjem albumu System, ki je izšel za bostonski Exploding In Sound Records, je ta napetost še bolj otipljiva. Aranžmaji so bolj disciplinirani, ritem pogosto deluje, kot bi bil namenoma odrezan prehitro ali predolgo zadržan, melodije pa se lomijo v točkah, kjer bi večina avtorjev raje izbrala bolj pričakovano rešitev. Pesmi, tako rekoč dnevnik Izzyjinih srednjih dvajsetih, so nastale sredi neprespanih noči ob obsesivnem razmišljanju in notranjem nemiru, ki ga ni mogoče odmisliti.

Under the name Prewn, Izzy Hagerup creates a kind of garage freak-folk built on sharp contrasts. Quiet, almost restrained guitar melodies are suddenly slashed by bursts of torn distortion, while the vocals shift between hushed whisper and tense, almost trembling confession. She shapes her songs like small psychological studies—fragmented, anxious, and full of inner tension that comes to the surface in ominously quiet pauses. On this year’s album System, released by Boston’s Exploding In Sound Records, that tension feels even more tangible. The arrangements are more disciplined, the rhythm often seems deliberately cut short or held too long, and the melodies break at moments where most artists would choose the more expected path. The songs which represent a diary of Izzy’s mid-twenties were written in the midst of sleepless nights, obsessive thoughts, and an inner restlessness that refuses to fade.
